The Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium raised about $1.8 million on Kickstarter. The digital edition reached backers in December 2025. The physical book has not been printed, and its September shipping date has come and gone.
In an update at the start of October, EGM Media said the printer raised the agreed price part-way through production. The team looked at moving to another printer, decided that would delay the book further, and paid the extra to the original one. The next print window is 16 October, and the next update is due the same day.
What EGM admitted
The wording is plain. ‘We bear full responsibility for where we’re at,’ the update says, and it concedes that ‘our belief that this would be like publishing an issue of a magazine was quite simply wrong.’ Time Extension notes that the update followed months of silence. Backers who no longer want to wait can ask for a refund through Kickstarter messages.
What 16 October does and doesn’t promise
A print window is a slot at the printer. It isn’t a delivery date, and neither source gives one. The honest reading is that a book which has already missed its shipping date now has a date for the next stage, not the last. At what point does a refund beat waiting?
