Toki, TAD Corporation’s 1989 arcade platformer about an ape who spits at enemies on a jungle quest to rescue a princess, is getting officially licensed conversions for old hardware. New Old Pixels, a French company founded by Benjamin Yoris, has signed a deal with Microids.

Nothing else is settled. The company says it is evaluating classic platforms built on the Motorola 68000 and Zilog Z80, with physical editions for the original hardware. No platforms, formats or release dates are confirmed, and more details are promised in the coming months. ‘Toki is exactly the kind of project we created New Old Pixels for,’ Yoris says: ‘giving retro machines the conversions of great arcade games they never got back in the day.’

Why everyone is guessing Spectrum

Console Classics lists the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Neo Geo, Master System and Game Gear as likely candidates, and points out that Ocean planned a 1991 Spectrum release that was teased to the British press and never appeared. That is commentary, not an announcement. The status is a signed licence and no machines named. Which of those could actually do the arcade original justice?
